Washington County Kansas and Google Maps

If you operate a business in Washington or for that matter,  Washington County Kansas, Google Maps probably has it wrong. As of this post, according to Google Maps, the Washington County Fairgrounds doesn't exist.  In Washington, The County Court House doesn't exist, nor does United Bank, the Post Office, both Chiropractors, both grocery stores, all of the eating and drinking establishements, the Museum, and the Liquor Store is referenced as "Swirly Top" (is there something going on that I don't know about -- please someone help me :).

Is your place of business or point of interest mapped correctly?  If not, in the lower right corner of the map is "report a problem".  You'll have to create a Google Account first and then report your issue with Google Maps.  If you are not listed, you should be.  They want your information. 

Why is this accuracy and completeness important?  Many travelers use the internet to plan their road trips.   They want to see what is ahead or might be ahead.  An incomplete and inaccurate Google Map gives all the more reason for someone to keep going to a larger city or worse yet, they will travel on I-80 or I-70.  It's up to you!

Fred Rogge of Washington Kansas Needs Your Vote

Hi Everyone,

In life, sometimes you have alot of time, other times not.  THIS IS ONE OF THOSE TIMES.

Fred Rogge was nominated for a National Community Service Award.  He is competing against 4 others from around the Nation.  Wednesday, December 16 is the last day of the voting.  Each person via IP number can vote for a candidate up to 50 times per day!

We all know hardworking, Fred Rogge.  He needs and deserves a trip to Orlando, Florida in January!  Besides, he said if he wins, he would bring some Florida sunshine with him back to Washington County

Pony Express, Hollenberg Station, Hanover, Christmas

The 21st Annual Christmas Open House at Hollenberg Station, Hanover, Kansas was held December 5 between 6 - 8 pm.  Hollenberg Station is the only remaining unaltered station that served Pony Express Riders from April 1860 to November 1861.  The Pony Express Riders chief duty was to deliver mail from Missouri to California.  The business of the horseback Pony Express went bust when the Pacific Telegraph company began operating in October of 1861.

The wood burning stoves were ablaze, warming this chilly winter's eve.  Kerosene lamps lit the Station as it did 150 years ago.  Friends of Hollenberg Station and local Volunteers popped popcorn and served cookies and other treats for the 40 - 50 guests.  Children of all ages also received gifts from Santa's scheduled visit.  Cold weather never stops Santa.

German style Christmas music was played by John Knabe and Ed Hajek of Odell, Nebraska.  They were joined by Martha Gerdes, of Hanover Kansas.  She played the accordion.
